Puffins - Farne Islands. (May-July 2017)
This is a full day workshop/tour to the Farne Islands. They are situated 2 to 3 miles off shore along the Northumberland coast between Bamburgh and the little village of Seahouses. This is arguably the best place in England to photograph puffins, as well as guillimots, kittiwakes, shags, razorbills and arctic terns.
Staple Island and Inner Farne are home to over 70,000 puffins and other sea birds. Its a wildlife photographers paradise! I will show you the techniques involved to photograph the birds in their habitat, and the best way to capture them in flight. Boy do these birds fly fast! We will visit both islands to make sure we get a variety of images of the puffins and other bird life.
I will meet you at the harbour at Seahouses and we will discuss the days activity, equipment to bring, and your level of experience. Then we board the boat to the first island. The boat trip provides opportunity for photography as we pass a colony of seals and its worth capturing the sea birds on the majestic cliffs.
You will spend approximately 2 hours on each island but this is dependant on weather conditions and the boat captains discretion. Sometime we may not be able to land on Staple Island due to tidal conditions so we will continue to sail round the island photographing the birds on the cliffs. This is not a problem on Inner Farne.
This is truly a fun-filled day and a memorable experience. You will be amazed at how close you can get to the wildlife, especially the puffins! Just make sure you bring enough memory cards!
