Dumfries & Galloway - Red Squirrels
When we think of Scotland we often have in mind the Highlands. It's true the Northern parts of Scotland are abundant in wildlife, and still my favourite place to photograph truly wild animals in their natural habitat.
In the South West there is a real gem of a place, off the beaten track, often overlooked by tourists, called Dumfries & Galloway. A landscape of forest, moors, rivers, mountains and a rugged coastline. For wildlife this is a haven! Scotland is home for 75% of the Red Squirrels in the UK, with Dumfries & Galloway being a real stronghold.
Last week I went to a location that on any given day you can see 3 or 4 squirrels together at one time. Here are some of the images I captured.
