When I was a kid I would see kestrels everywhere! Sadly the kestrel has declined and here in Ayrshire is quite a rare bird. Imagine how thrilled I was to stumble across a pair of kestrels nesting in an old building. I obviously didn't want to disturb them at all so I kept well away and resisted the urge to try and get shots of the parents around the nest site.
I waited until the chicks had fledged before I took out the camera. There were two chicks and spent a few days watching them around the nest site. Initially they were ever so curious of me and allowed me to walk very close to where they were sitting before feeling threatened. But as each day past I could see them growing more independant and adventurous. This was interesting to watch also as they developed. After 3 days they had virtually gone only to return late in the evening as the parent would come in with a voles to feed them.
I was able to get some shots of them in different light and really enjoyed my few days with these lovely birds of prey.
